Lack of concentration

Creativity

My goal was to feel joy today when painting. I started painting with brush in the middle of my canvas.

And then I took lunch.

One may wonder what I did until lunch… I had a view of my paintings from this term and the last with the guest teacher. As usual an eye-opener. After lunch I continued with brush, and when I had done a few strokes on the jug I lost my concentration and everything failed.

I usually mix my colours with my brush, since I just simply think it is easier to mix and just apply to canvas. The guest teacher thinks we should mix with palette knife and so we do. But, the convenience of mixing and applying disappear, now I have to mix with knife, put down, put up brush, paint – oh no, I have to mix again, and the very same procedure again. Exhausting. I started to paint with the palette knife. The only thing painted with brush is the jug, the rest is with palette knife. It felt good.

It was my first time painting with a palette knife and I will absolutely continue to use it, but also use brush. When I used the knife I got happy, it was fun and my concentration came back.

Stay tuned, next week we will paint by model.

Learning experience

Creativity

Yesterday I started painting on a new painting. And today I learned something. Andreas, my teacher told me how he had made the grass in his painting “Heather Honey”, so I followed instructions and came up with this.

Now, the idea was to lay a darker base so I later could add grass strokes, and make it more plausable. Today I continued on this painting. I added strokes of grass, and it was hard to believe when I started that the dark area you see in the picture above would be almost lime green. But this is how far I got today.

Personally, I really feel like I’m on to something, this could actually turn out good! I have been happy all day long.

So as I mentioned a few days ago, we have theme weeks in school and I choose to paint. But I did not write much about the other choice I had. To make paper and bind books. Now, I have not bound any books but I tipped on my naked toes into the room where they were making paper during lunch and a class mate of mine showed me how to make paper. This is how it looks when you make paper.

It gets really wet on the floor so when I tiptoed out of there my feet were all wet, but it was mostly just cosy. In the picture to the right you can see my four papers I have made. They will hang and dry up until monday and then I have four handmade papers!

I have also began on a new painting today! It turned out that I had gotten so far with the flower-painting that it was to wet to keep painting on, so I prepared a new painting, I will continue on on monday. I will show you both the sketch and how far I have come on the painting, which isn’t very far though, I have only laid a thin base.

A few of you might notice that I have taken inspiration form other artists. And I have!

My sister Linda have requested that I show her a lino print I have made. I was cutting it when I was home at mom’s visiting a few weeks ago. It was a lot of fun to make and even more fun to print!

I would like to keep sharing how the theme week-s are going. Today our guest teacher Andreas Glad made a presentation of himself as an artist. It was brilliant. He is very talented. I would like to show you one of my favorites among the works he showed us today, it is named “Heather Honey”.

On the link above you can find where I borrowed his painting. I love all the contrast between the bright yellow grass and the violett heather and the little greenery inbetween.

When you attens the second year at my school you are granted your own space to work, you share a studio at school with those who choose to attend the second year. But unfortunately you don’t have your own space in the first year… and I am in the end of first year. But now during these theme weeks I have set up my own temporary work space, since I will be there everyday for two weeks, the others have done the same. So my next thought was, why don’t share where I work!

Let me give you a small go through. Tilted against the wall you see the two outdoor paintings from earlier this week. On the floor you see some apple branches in a bucket, I ran out in the rain snatching them from the ground when our janitor was cutting them off. I don’t know if I have mentioned that but we have this really amazing apple garden, full of apple trees, and they give delicious fruit in the autumn. And then I make delicious apple pie ; )

Anyhow, right before I left this afternoon I prepared another canvas. Next project can be peeked at under the black moleskin sketch book ; )

This is what I have been working on today, it is not quite finished yet. To be continued tomorrow : ) I have some stuff to work on to make it look better!
